The three main highlights of the Route of Emotions are Jericoacoara, Parnaíba Delta, and Lençóis Maranhenses. Each offers unique landscapes and a wealth of experiences for visitors throughout the journey.

Jericoacoara is a fishing village that has become one of Brazil’s top travel destinations. Surrounded by sand dunes and stunning beaches like Praia do Preá and Praia da Malhada, Jericoacoara is also recognized as one of the world’s premier spots for kitesurfing.

The Parnaíba Delta is the third-largest delta in the world, stretching across an impressive 2,700 km². It forms where the Parnaíba River meets the Atlantic Ocean and is home to a rich array of wildlife and flora.

Lençóis Maranhenses is one of the most breathtaking destinations in Brazil. This national park features vast white sand dunes and crystal-clear lagoons formed by seasonal rains.

Where to Begin and End the Route of Emotions

The Route of Emotions is a journey that can start either in São Luís or Fortaleza, covering three Brazilian states: Maranhão, Piauí, and Ceará. The journey can begin at either end, but the most common option is to start from Lençóis Maranhenses, travel through the Delta in Piauí, and finish in Jericoacoara—or the reverse: begin in Jericoacoara, cross the Delta, and end in Lençóis.

Our experts recommend starting in São Luís for a more relaxed experience: begin with the Lençóis Maranhenses parks (which involve more strenuous walks over dunes) and then unwind along the rivers and beaches of other cities, soaking up the incredible scenery that only Brazil’s Northeast can offer.
